While Shelby Township is among the communities under the Great Lakes Water Authority's boil water advisory, there is no water shortage. The GLWA assures the township the current water supply is adequate to meet all essential needs. Shelby Township maintains its ban on outdoor irrigation and other nonessential outdoor water use to minimize impact during the boil water advisory.
To meet the needs of residents who cannot boil water for consumption, the state of Michigan has supplied a limited supply of emergency bottled water. This limited supply includes roughly 2,300 units to distribute today, Aug. 15 through Wednesday, Aug. 17. As more supplies become available, daily pickups will continue. Shelby Township will distribute water to seniors in need who are enrolled in the Meals on Wheels program and SMART transportation services. Drive-thru distribution centers will be set up at Ford Field Central Park, Whispering Woods Park and River Bends Park.
Residents living in the 48315 zip code can pick up water 2-7 p.m., or while supplies last, at Whispering Woods Park at 11000 21 Mile Road.
Residents living in the 48316 zip code can pick up water 2-7 p.m., or while supplies last, at
Ford Field Central Park at 7460 23 Mile Road.
Residents living in the 48317 zip code can pick up water 2-7 p.m., or while supplies last, at
River Bends Park (Ryan Road) at 4101 River Bends Drive.
Because the supply is limited Shelby Township asks only residents that cannot sanitize their water by boiling participate in the distribution program.
