Alarm, Keyholder and Camera Registration

Residential / Business Alarm Registration (required by ordinance):

Pursuant to Ordinance of the Charter Township of Shelby, "Upon notification, any person, firm or corporation who owns, leases or occupies a premises in which an alarm system is installed, used or maintained, shall register such alarm system with the Shelby Township Police Department on forms provided by the Police Department; owners are required to inform the police department of changes to the information requested on those forms."  Please register your alarm system by filling out the registration form on the forms tab or click HERE.  Likewise, should you experience a change in your alarm company and/or contact persons, please be sure you submit those changes using the same registration form.  For questions regarding alarm registration call 586-731-2121 ext. 306 or email mjurcak@shelbytwp.org

False Alarms - Important Note-

Shelby Township has a False Alarm Ordinance.  Be certain that your alarm system is in good working order to prevent false alarms.  Substantial penalties may be imposed on repeated false alarms.  All outstanding fees not paid by mid-November are given to the Treasurer's Office for inclusion with the winter tax bill.  (Alarm ordinance may be viewed HERE ).

Business Keyholder Registration -

If you own a business in Shelby Township, we request  that you complete the Business Keyholder Registration found on the forms tab or by clicking HEREThis is not mandatory, but assists our first responders who may be called to your business in an emergency situation to make contact with the authorized keyholders much more quickly. Please be sure to update the registry often using the same form to keep information fresh.


Business and Residential Camera Registration-

You will find a camera registry form on the forms tab or by clicking HERE. 

This registry is not mandatory and does not give us authorization or ability to access your camera system.  It merely provides our investigators and patrol officers with information about surveillance in the area that might be helpful to them in solving crimes.  We appreciate every homeowner and business owner who takes the initiative to install a security and surveillance system on their premises as they are our partners in keeping Shelby Township a safe and secure place to live and work.  We ask that they take that partnership one step further by providing the camera information to us for easy reference.
