Cadet Program

“Life begins when you begin to serve.”
- Ronald Reagan

The Shelby Township Police Cadet Program was established in 2018 with the goals of identifying and hiring qualified candidates while also providing the individual with valuable experience toward a career in law enforcement.

The Cadet Program is a recruitment function and helps to identify individuals who are not only looking for a career in law enforcement, but also have Shelby Township as their choice. Once hired, the cadets are continually evaluated toward the goal of being hired as a police officer. This time allows the department to better determine the cadet’s work ethic, level of responsibility, and commitment prior to offering the opportunity to become a police officer.

The program also allows the cadet the ability to gain valuable experience and insight into the Shelby Township Police Department’s role within the field of law enforcement and our community. Cadets have the opportunity to assist police officers and civilian personnel with a variety of tasks within the police department
