Winter Storm Elliot is predicted to impact southeast Michigan beginning late this evening and continuing into Saturday. Residents should be prepared for snow accumulation, strong winds, and wind chills below zero.
Please keep this in mind if you are traveling during this busy holiday weekend. Slow down, make sure your vehicle is gassed up, wear your seatbelt, leave plenty of space between vehicles, clear your windshield and mirrors and don’t drink and drive!
In the event of a snow emergency, pursuant to MCL CODE 257.252d (f), all vehicle owners are advised to not have any vehicles parked on the roadways. All vehicle owners shall remove their vehicle from the public roadway. Vehicles not removed will be towed by the Police Department to a place of safekeeping at the owner’s expense.
During this time, please remember to keep fire hydrants clear of snow and obstructions in the event that an emergency occurs. Vehicles shall be considered an obstruction if stopped, standing or parked within 15 feet either side of the front side of any fire hydrant. Residential fire hydrants shall not have an obstruction within four (4) feet around the hydrants with no obstruction in front. Commercial fire hydrants shall not have an obstruction within six (6) feet around the hydrant with no obstruction in front, including parking lots.
If your road requires snow or ice removal, please contact the Macomb County Department of Roads at 586-463-8671 or visit roads.macombgov.org/roads-home-request to submit a form online.
Because the township offices will be closed from Dec. 23 until Jan. 2, non-emergency situations please contact the Shelby Township Police Department at (586) 731-2121. For emergencies dial 911.
