*PRESS RELEASE -FATAL ACCIDENT*
On 06/06/24, at 12:52 pm Officers from Shelby Twp responded to an injury accident on southbound M-53 near 22 Mile. Upon the officers’ arrival they discovered 2 severely injured occupants. The first responding officers quickly attempted lifesaving measures for the involved motorists.
Initial investigation determined that the at fault driver, Jose Medina-Hernandez, failed to slow in a construction area causing a 4-car accident that resulted in the deaths of an 88-year-old mother and her 63-year-old daughter. Both Mother and daughter were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Shelby Twp Officers transported Medina-Hernandez to a local hospital to be checked out for injuries from the accident and was later placed under arrest for moving violation causing death. It was later determined that Medina-Hernandez had no legal status in this country and ICE was contacted for further investigation.
The mother and daughters’ identity will not be released at this time out of respect for their families.
Today On June 7th 2024 Jose Median-Hernandez was arraigned at 41-A district court in Shelby Township by Magistrate Verploeg.
Median-Hernandez was arraigned on 2 counts of Moving Violation causing death.
Mediana-Hernandez was given a $250,000 bond cash/surety bond with a GPS tether.
Mediana-Hernandez was unable to post bond and was lodged at Macomb County Jail.
“First, I want to express my deepest sympathy to the victims and their family. This was definitely a preventable accident that took the lives of a loving mother and daughter. I am distraught over the fact that the suspect, Jose Eugenio Median-Hernandez was found to have no legal status in the country.” Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide.
