***PRESS RELEASE***
In the early morning hours of 07/17/25, Shelby Township Police responded to break-ins at both Lady Jane’s Haircuts for Men locations. Surveillance footage showed at least one of the two suspects was armed with a handgun during one of the break-ins. The case was quickly turned over to our Detective Bureau and Special Investigation Unit for follow-up. Detectives learned that two other locations within Macomb County had also recently been broken into with similar suspect descriptions and method.
Detectives quickly developed an investigative lead from the use of FLOCK that tied a recently stolen auto that was nearby both locations at the time of the crimes. The vehicle was abandoned and recovered in the city of Roseville. Further digging into this lead identified a potential suspect, Dayshaun Spencer, out of Missouri. Spencer has a full extradition warrant out of Illinois for Burglary. A person that met the description of Spencer was located in Roseville and detectives conducted multiple days of surveillance with the coordinated efforts of Roseville Police, Clinton Township Police and Troy Special Investigations while the investigation continued.
Surveillance footage later acquired confirmed that the stolen vehicle was used as the getaway vehicle and Spencer and his unidentified accomplice were indeed our B+E suspects. With this newly acquired intel, Roseville PD and Clinton Township PD assisted with immediately apprehending Spencer and his accomplice. His accomplice was then identified as Martez Dashawn Hayes of Detroit.
During the subsequent search of the suspects, a stolen firearm was recovered along with the same clothing used during the commission of the Shelby Township crimes.
The hard work from our detective bureau and neighboring jurisdictions solved a string of at least 4 separate break-ins throughout Macomb County.
On 07/23/25, both Dayshaun Trevon Spencer and Martez Dashawn Hayes Jr. were arraigned in front of Judge Sierawski for the two Shelby Township cases:
*Breaking and Entering- A building with Intent
*Malicious Destruction of a building
*Larceny in a Building
*Safe Breaking
*Felony Firearms (3 counts)
*Possession of Burglar’s Tools
Both Spencer and Hayes were each given a $100,000 Bond Cash/surety.
Other charges are pending from other jurisdictions.
“I am impressed with our detectives and grateful for our neighboring departments and their willingness to assist. The teamwork and coordination across multiple jurisdictions prevented their getaway and closed this case in an expedited fashion. This is a perfect example of how technology and good old fashioned police work go hand in hand to get the bad guys. It is also a great example of the level of determination and commitment that our officers and neighboring jurisdictions have to keep our communities safe.” -Shelby Township Chief of Police Robert J. Shelide.
