***PRESS RELEASE***
On 06/03/25, at approximately 15:17 hrs. an officer from Shelby Township police conducted a traffic stop on a white Caravan in the area of Van Dyke and 22 Mile. During the course of the traffic stop the sole occupant of the vehicle, a 41-year-old male out of Troy exited the vehicle and fled south bound on foot. The officer pursued the suspect that led them to go behind the businesses in the area. The officer gave commands to the suspect to stop before deploying a taser. The suspect continued to flee from the officer. The suspect then produced a weapon. The officer gave several verbal commands to drop the weapon before firing and striking the suspect.
The suspect a 41-year-old male was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The suspect was later identified at the hospital; however, his name will not be released at this time.
In accordance with department policy the officer was placed on administrative leave and the entire investigation will be turned over to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
