Good morning and happy Monday! This week we are back with Officer Simon! Officer Simon grew up in Rochester and attended Stoney Creek High School. After high school, he went into the Marine Corps and served for 4 years. After the Marine Corps, he went on to get his Associate’s degree in General Studies at Oakland Community College. Officer Simon has been with the Shelby Township Police Department for a year and a half now. In that time, he became a Use of Force Instructor/Range Instructor. He is also trained in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement. Most recently, he was selected to be the first Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) in Shelby Twp. PD history. A DRE is a Police Officer trained to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs other than, or in addition to alcohol. He is also trained as a rifle Instructor, ground control and edged weapon defense Instructor. In addition, teaches the new recruits at the Oakland Police Academy. Officer Simon is also attending pistol and shotgun Instructor school along with Lockup 1 and 2 Instructor school in the near future. His biggest accomplishment so far in his career is being selected by the department and Drug Recognition Expert board to become a DRE. Outside of work, he likes to stay busy! Officer Simon enjoys hiking, traveling, fishing, hunting and playing ice hockey. He also enjoys working on cars and he is a huge fan of classic and modern muscle cars. Officer Simon is married to his beautiful wife and they have their first child on the way! They also have 2 dogs and a cat at home. Their dog’s names are Beretta and Toby and their cat is named Boogie. He also likes to spend time with his family; his brother is a Police Officer at another department and has been an Officer for 19 years. Officer Simon says that his brother is a big reason why he became a Police Officer. Officer Simon currently works night shift so make sure to say hello!
