Happy Monday morning and we would like to introduce you to Deputy Chief Schmittler! Before we get started, DC Schmittler has been with the Shelby Township Police Department for over 29 years! That makes him the longest member of the Police Department and for that he has many many accomplishments. DC Schmittler grew up in Sterling Heights and attended Stevenson High School. He is the second generation of Police Officers in his family, his father retired out of Sterling Heights Police Department. He went on to achieve is Associates Degree at Macomb, his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Rochester College, and his Master’s Degree in in Administration from Central Michigan University. In his 29 years of service, he has had many roles. He was a Field Training Officer (FTO), and Evidence Technician, in the Narcotics Unit, then the Sergeant of the Narcotics Unit, then was promoted to Lieutenant and was the Detective Bureau Lieutenant, then promoted to Captain and promoted once more to the role of Deputy Chief. DC Schmittler also graduated from Northwestern University’s Public Safety School of Staff and Command. DC Schmittler has received numerous awards throughout his career including Officer of the Year twice and Command Officer of the Year. He says one of his biggest accomplishments was the work of the Narcotics Unit. He was a part of and ran the unit for 10 years chasing the poison out of Shelby Township and Macomb County. DC Schmittler stated he has worked with the best and bravest detectives throughout the tri-county area dedicated to keep our streets and kids safe! Outside of work he likes to stay active. DC Schmittler works out and exercises every day, gotta close those rings for my Apple Watch people out there ;). He also enjoys vacationing and taking trips with his wonderful family. But when he is at home, his backyard is his paradise! He enjoys hanging out by the pool, wine tasting, cooking, grilling and smoking BBQ. He is quite the cook! His family consists of his beautiful wife, 4 children, 3 grandchildren and a dog named Bear. Make sure to say hello to Deputy Chief Schmittler!
