PRESS RELEASE
On January 19, 2021 at approximately 6:15 PM, the Shelby Township Police Department and Fire Department were dispatched to Van Dyke and 21 Mile on an injury accident involving two vehicles, one of which was on fire. Officers arrived to find a Dodge Ram truck (fully engulfed) and a Commercial Vehicle had collided in the intersection. Officers rendered first aid to all parties on scene and turned over their care to Shelby Township Fire personnel.
Initial investigation revealed that the Dodge Ram truck was northbound Van Dyke, turning left onto 21 Mile. The commercial truck was southbound Van Dyke traveling through the intersection at 21 Mile. The driver (age 45) of the Dodge Ram truck, a Macomb Twp. resident, along with his two children (both age 12), were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Ram truck and his daughter both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased by hospital personnel. The second child passenger is still being treated with serious injuries.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was uninjured. Detectives interviewed him on scene and he was released pending the outcome of the investigation which is ongoing.
