Last week, we put out a news post to watch over our local senior citizens, as we have seen an alarming increase in people trying to scam money out of them, using various methods and types of scams. Unfortunately, since we put that post out last week, a local senior citizen was scammed out of a large amount of money, in excess of $40,000.
Again, we remind you to watch over and educate your senior citizen family members, friends, and neighbors about these types of scams and not to fall victim to them. The local Police Department, Attorneys, the Federal Government, the IRS, will NEVER ask you to send them money, either in the mail, or by using paypal, money orders, or cash apps on your cell phone. We have even seen a case where a courier was sent to a home to pick up money from an elderly resident that she thought was going to be used to get her grandson out of jail.
Many of these scammers also tell Senior Citizens to "not tell anyone" about what is going on. They of course tell the seniors this because they know if they told someone about it, that they would then be alerted to the scam.
Again, please pass the word so we can avoid any more of these scammers praying on our vulnerable senior citizens.
