Sgt. William Alvarez Memorial Toy Drive
sgt.-alvarez-toy-drive.jpg

The annual toy drive was initiated by Sergeant William Alvarez to benefit disadvantaged children in the area. With every passing year the program grew, and more officers and their families volunteered to help with the program. After Sgt. Alvarez passed away suddenly on 11/14/2005, the Cape May Police Department decided to continue the toy drive and rename it in memory of Sgt. Alvarez. To date, hundreds of children of various ages have been helped by our generous community. It is in the spirit of Christmas that the Cape May Police Department is proud to organize and work with the community to make everyone’s Christmas just a little bit better and Christmas memories that much warmer.
As the season approaches, signs with children’s names and ages will be placed at various locations in Cape May City and the Boroughs of West Cape May and Cape May Point. People can anonymously select a name, purchase a gift and deliver it to a drop off location. CMPD will gladly pick up the gifts if they cannot be delivered to the department.
