On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at approximately 12:29 PM, Bensalem Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at a commercial office building located on the 3100 block of Tremont Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers observed that a side glass door to the building had been shattered and forced open. While conducting a search of the property, officers heard noises from inside the building and located an adult male suspect in a rear equipment room, actively cutting and removing copper wiring.
The suspect, identified as James Harkless-Dechellis, 41, Second Avenue, Croydon, was taken into custody without incident. Investigators also recovered numerous tools and containers filled with previously cut wire from inside the building.
During the investigation, the defendant admitted to entering the building with the intent to steal copper wire for resale. The investigation also revealed that the defendant brought his girlfriend's 11-year-old daughter with him and instructed her to hold a flashlight while he committed the crime.
Harkless-Dechellis was charged with Burglary, Corruption of Minors, and related offenses. He was arraigned by District Judge Falcone, who set bail at 10% of $150,000. Unable to post bail, the defendant was turned over to constables and transported to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
We commend the quick response and investigative efforts of our officers that led to the safe apprehension of the suspect and prevented further damage to the property.
