Bensalem Police Charge Suspect with Criminal Homicide in 2012 Child Abuse Case Following Victim's Death

The Bensalem Township Police Department has filed criminal homicide charges against Kyle Hinkle, 38, Allentown, PA, in connection with the death of a child victim involved initially in a 2012 severe physical abuse investigation in Bensalem.

On October 12, 2012, the Bensalem Township Police Special Victims Unit was contacted by Bucks County Children and Youth after medical staff at Aria Torresdale Hospital (currently Jefferson Torresdale Hospital) reported that Kyle Hinkle’s son, a three-month-old male infant, was diagnosed with bleeding in the brain and retinal hemorrhages, injuries highly suspicious for inflicted abuse. A CAT scan revealed new and old injuries in various stages of healing. The infant, born in July 2012 and residing at a home on Virginia Avenue, Bensalem, was transferred to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children for specialized evaluation and treatment.

A Bensalem Township Police Detective responded to St. Christopher’s Hospital, where the child was admitted to the ICU. A Child Protection Program doctor determined the injuries were inflicted and caused by significant force consistent with abusive head trauma.

Hinkle later admitted he shook the infant multiple times on the morning of October 12, 2012, stating he was unable to stop the child’s crying and did so without supporting the infant’s head.

Kyle Hinkle was charged with Aggravated Assault, Endangering the Welfare of Children, and Simple Assault.  He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 2 years in county prison with an additional 3 years of supervised parole/probation.

On August 14, 2024, Bensalem Township Police were notified by the Pennsylvania State Police that the victim from the 2012 investigation had died in Oliver, Pennsylvania, at age 11. An autopsy in Westmoreland County determined the cause of death was complications of blunt force trauma to the head and neck resulting from the 2012 abuse.

Based on the autopsy and original investigation, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office approved additional charges. On November 24, 2025, District Justice Michael Gallagher issued a warrant charging Kyle Hinkle with third-degree murder.  Bensalem Police immediately traveled to Allentown and took Hinkle into custody at his workplace with the assistance of Allentown Police.

Hinkle was arraigned by District Justice Gallagher and remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of 10% of $2,000,000 bail.
