Mayor Joe DiGirolamo Promotes Six Officers and Welcomes New Police Officer and Firefighter

On Monday, November 3, 2025, Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo, Director of Public Safety William McVey, and Deputy Director Robert Race held a ceremony recognizing several members of the Bensalem Township Department of Public Safety. The ceremony included the promotion of six police officers, the swearing-in of a new police officer, and a new firefighter.

Lieutenant Andrew Zabierowski was promoted from Sergeant to Lieutenant. Lt. Zabierowski joined the Bensalem Township Police Department in 2010 and has served in the Patrol Division, Special Investigations Division, and on the SWAT Team as a sniper, team leader, and firearms instructor. He has received numerous commendations for life-saving actions and narcotics investigations. His leadership and experience will be an asset to the Command Staff and the continued success of the department.

Sergeant Robert Schwarting was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant. Sgt. Schwarting joined the department in 2015 and has served in the K-9 Unit with his partner, Bowie, for nine years. He has earned multiple commendations, including Life-Saving Awards, two Officer of the Year Awards, the Citizen Crime Commission Award, and many other honors for his outstanding service alongside his K-9 partner.

Sergeant Kevin Howard was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant. Sgt. Howard has served with the Bensalem Township Police Department since 2013 and is a United States Marine Corps veteran. He has been a proud member of the Bensalem Police Honor Guard for over ten years and serves in the K-9 Unit with his partner, Jango. Sgt. Howard has received numerous commendations, including the Medal of Valor, for his bravery during an incident in which a suspect fired a weapon at police.

Corporal Patrick Treadwell was promoted from Patrol Officer to Corporal. Corporal Treadwell joined the department in 2016 after serving with the Winston-Salem Police Department in North Carolina. He is a member of the SWAT Team, Honor Guard, Field Training Officer Program, and UAS (Drone) Unit. He has received several awards, including a Life Saving Award for his response to a cardiac arrest victim and a Department of Public Safety Award for his heroic actions during a house fire on Kings Lane.

Corporal Francis Ludovici was promoted from Patrol Officer to Corporal. Corporal Ludovici joined the department in 2019 following his service in the United States Marine Corps and continues to serve in the Army National Guard with multiple deployments during his tenure as a police officer. He is a member of the SWAT Team, a firearms instructor, and a field training officer. He has received several commendations, including two Life Saving Awards.

Police Officer Jeremy Smith was sworn in as a new police officer. Before joining the department, Officer Smith worked as a Block Operator with the Long Island Railroad. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army and currently serves with the United States Air National Guard Security Forces. Officer Smith joined the Bensalem Police Department in May 2025 and graduated from the Temple University Police Academy earlier this fall. He is currently assigned to the Patrol Division and is undergoing field training.

Firefighter MacKenzie Crain was sworn in as a full-time firefighter with Bensalem Rescue. Firefighter Crain has served part-time with Bensalem Rescue for over a year and began her fire service in 2022 with the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, where she continues to serve as a Fire Lieutenant. She holds certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Vehicle Rescue Technician, Water Rescue Specialist, and Wildland Firefighter. Firefighter Crain earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.

Mayor DiGirolamo and Director McVey extend their sincere congratulations to all of the officers and firefighters recognized today. Bensalem Township is proud of their dedication to public service and wishes them continued success in their new roles within the Bensalem Department of Public Safety.
