On Sunday 07/30/2017 at 12:27 PM, Bensalem Police responded to the Knights Inn Hotel for a baby found alone in a room. Hotel staff found a 7 month old child lying on the floor when they entered the room to clean the room after the occupants failed to checkout at 11:00 AM. The child was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by Bensalem Rescue Squad to be evaluated. It does not appear that the child suffered any injuries. There were narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the room.
Investigation determined that the room was rented by 34 year old Erica Avila-Lopez of Philadelphia who is the baby’s mother. It was also determined that Erica Avila-Lopez left the child in the room alone on 07/29/2017 at approximately 4:00 PM and never returned to the room. Bensalem Police could not locate Erica Avila-Lopez. Bucks County Children & Youth social workers responded to St. Mary’s Hospital and the baby was turned over to the custody of Philadelphia DHS since Lopez and her child are Philadelphia residents. An arrest warrant was obtained for Erica Avila-Lopez charging her with Endangering the Welfare of Children, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Narcotics Offenses.
