Bensalem Township Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy
The Bensalem Township Police Department will be hosting a Citizens Police Academy this fall (2016). The Citizens Police Academy is estimated to last 11 weeks beginning in September and attendees will meet once a week, in the evening, for approximately two to three hours. The goal of the academy is to allow Bensalem citizens the opportunity to learn what police officers do on a daily basis and see firsthand what challenges police officers face in the performance of their duties. The academy will be limited to 40 attendees and you must be a Bensalem resident to qualify. The following topics will be covered (subject to change /elimination):
- FTO and Training
- Traffic Safety (MP, Truck Enforcement, DUI, Accident Inv, Traffic Stops)
- Criminal Investigations, Crime Trends, CID Equipment and DNA
- Use of Force, Officer Safety and TI
- K-9
- Special Investigations Unit
- SWAT, Specialized Equipment and Weapons
- Juvenile Programs (SRO, PAL, Explorers, DARE and YAP)
- Digital Forensics, Internet Safety and Sex Crimes
- Community drug problem, Narcan and BPAIR
- Criminal Procedure and Court Process
- Town Watch and Crime Prevention
- Emergency Management
The Bensalem Township Police Department places great emphasis on its relationship with the community. We have enjoyed great success over the years with our Police Athletic League, Youth Aid Program, Townwatch, and now BPAIR (Bensalem Police Assisting in Recovery). We believe that the Citizens Police Academy will bolster our community ties and continue to unite Bensalem as one.
