Get an inside view of law enforcement with a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on training in the areas of Tasers, K-9 demonstrations, Crime Scene Investigations, Evidence Collection, Arrest Control, Firearms Safety and much more.

The Youth Citizen’s Police Academy is a program designed to provide teens between the ages of 13 and 17 with an inside look at law enforcement. The purpose of the Academy is to increase understanding between young citizens through education and interaction with members of the Golden Police Department. The Academy gives young citizens the opportunity to learn why we “can” and why we “cannot” do certain things.

Since interactions between police and young citizens are often negative, the Academy also gives both the officers and the students an opportunity to interact with each other in an environment that is educational and non-threatening.

The Academy is one week long and is held in June each year. Classroom presentations are combined with hands-on exposure to provide participants with a well-rounded experience.

If an emergency does arise, the participant will be provided with all necessary medical treatment, up to and including transportation to the closest available hospital. Academy staff will make every effort to contact a parent or guardian as quickly as possible.

YOUTH CITIZENS’ POLICE ACADEMY RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION (TO BE COMPLETED BY PARENT/GUARDIAN)

In consideration for my child, named below under Applicant’s Name, being allowed to participate in the Golden Police Department’s Youth Citizens’ Police Academy and receiving benefits therefrom, I do hereby release the City of Golden, the Golden Police Department, and all public officials, agents, employees, or servants of the City of Golden (which shall be referred to collectively as the “City”) from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action of any nature whatsoever, which I may hereafter have an account of any and all injuries, losses, and/or damages, to child (including their death) or to their property, which arise out of or are related to their participation in the Youth Citizens’ Police Academy, or any event or incident occurring while they are participating in the Youth Citizens’ Police Academy’s program. For the same consideration, I agree to forever hold the City harmless from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or cause of action that may be asserted against the City for any damages, losses, injuries, and expenses (including attorney fees), resulting from my child’s participation in the Youth Citizens’ Police Academy’s programs. I expressly agree that this release and indemnity is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Colorado, and that if any portion hereof is held invalid, the balance shall continue in full force and effect.
