The Golden Police Department has seen a rise in the number of reported Burglaries within the city. These crimes take place in the late evening and early morning hours. Suspects are targeting vehicles that are parked in residential areas. They enter vehicles (if left unlocked) or force entry via a car window and use garage door openers to gain access to garages. Suspects often steal items of value from garages, including bicycles and tools.

Steps for mitigating the likelihood of victimization include:

• Locking your vehicle if parked on the street
• Removing your garage door opener from your vehicle when parking for the night, several newer model garage door openers can be operated via a smartphone.
• Securing items of value kept in your garage (locked toolboxes/cabinets and bike locks)

The Golden Police Department will continue to partner with our citizens to prevent crimes and exhaust all efforts to solve crimes as they are reported. The adage “See something Say something” still holds. Our officers will respond to calls of suspicious activity in our neighborhoods while maintaining a high level of active patrolling in residential areas to detect and deter criminal activity.
