Attempted Escape at Campus at Lookout Mountain

Golden, CO – May 19, 2021 — At approximately 6:22 a.m., Golden Police responded to 2901 Ford Street, Campus at Lookout Mountain (CALM), on a report of shots fired related to an alleged attempted escape.  Currently, the investigation indicates a gold-colored Lexus SUV with a bicycle rack was in the parking lot on the north side of the campus.  The vehicle drove around to the west side of the campus on a maintenance access road.  Two or three individuals, presumed to be males of unknown race or age, dressed in all dark clothing got out of the vehicle.  The individuals used a bag containing rocks to throw an orange-colored rope over the fence.   

As this was occurring, Ernesto Ontiveros (DOB 01/05/2003), a resident of the campus was being moved from a housing unit to the dining hall for breakfast.  Mr. Ontiveros ran from staff towards the fence.  Staff was able to contain Mr. Ontiveros.  A maintenance worker on the grounds heard a gunshot and someone say, “Get back,” and then a second gun shot.  The individuals got back into the vehicle and fled the area.  No one in the facility was injured.  Police recovered two 380 shell casings in the vicinity of where the vehicle was seen. 

Mr. Ontiveros was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on the charge of Attempted Escape.  The charges are merely an accusation.  Mr. Ontiveros is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. 

The gold Lexus and the individuals associated are still at large.
