With monsoon season just around the corner, we would like to remind everyone of the dangers of flash flooding. A nearby cloud burst can cause our dry creek beds and arroyos to fill suddenly without warning. To avoid being trapped in a flash flood, never camp in a dry creek bed, be extra cautious when hiking drainages and never drive into flowing water. Keep an eye out for thunderstorms and be ready to take to higher ground if you notice heavy rain above your elevation. Please enjoy our great outdoors safely, Fremont County!
Water levels are on the rise, and our county has recently experienced multiple river related emergencies. We would encourage everyone to be extra cautious when playing or fishing on the Arkansas. If you are not an experienced swiftwater boater, please go with someone who has plenty of experience. Make sure you use correctly fitted safety gear (flotation device, helmet) and never boat alone. When playing on shore, keep a close eye on kids and pets and never stand on undercut banks. If you are wade fishing, keep in mind that even swiftwater can overpower or sweep you off your feet.
