Picking up Property

Property is released by appointment ONLY. To schedule an appointment, call 719-276-5526 during normal business hours. You must provide your name, a FCSO case number or Court case number, a serial number and/or a description of the property you would like to pick up.  *You must bring a valid state-issued photo ID or Driver License to your appointment. 

If you were arrested by FCSO, and a deputy booked your property for safekeeping because the jail would not accept it, that property will be held for 90 days.

Evidence Releases

The Evidence Custodian does not release property held as evidence without written authorization from the agency handling the case.  This may be the investigator, the District Attorney’s Office, another law enforcement agency or the court.  To inquire about the case status please contact the District Attorney or investigating Officer. Please provide your name and FCSO case number.

Picking Up Property for Another Person/Non-Owner Claims

If you are picking up the property for someone else, you will need a Power of Attorney (POA) or a Notarized Statement from the person who owns the property authorizing you to claim your item(s) on your behalf. The document must indicate the name of the person picking up the property as well as an inventory of items they are authorized to claim.  The person picking up your property must make an appointment with the Evidence custodian, and bring a valid government issued photo ID along with the POA or Notarized Statement.

Found Property

Any item turned into Evidence as found property is held for at least 90 days to attempt to identify an owner.  If the item has not been claimed, it may be eligible for release to the finder under certain circumstances.  Please contact our office just prior to the end of the 90 days.

Lost Items

If you would like to find out if a lost item has been turned in, call 719-276-5526. You must provide your name, date of birth, phone number, description of the item(s), and the location where the item(s) may have been lost.

Firearms & Ammunition

Firearms cannot be released until a background check through CBI has been completed. CBI requires possession of a valid Colorado ID or driver's license. If your background check is approved, you will be notified and then may schedule an appointment to pick up your firearm(s). The background check typically takes 3-5 business days.

If you are denied possession of a firearm by CBI, you may appeal the denial with CBI.

A background check will be processed for anyone claiming a firearm to ensure they are eligible to possess. If you are attempting to authorize another individual to claim your firearm, they will need to present verifiable ID, as well as a valid Power of Attorney or Notarized Statement. 

Inmate property

If you were booked into the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, your property will be released by the detention officer at the time you are released, please contact, Lt. Perez at 719-276-5517 for further information.

Vehicle Impounds

If your vehicle has been impounded and stored within our secured facility.  You may contact Deputy Sanger at 719-276-5555 x 3817.  Please leave your name, phone number, FCSO case number, and Vehicle description.

If your vehicle is being held as evidence a written authorization must be provided from the investigating deputy, the District Attorney’s Office, or another law enforcement agency who is handling the case.  To inquire about the case status please contact the District Attorney or investigating Officer.

All vehicles released are by appointment ONLY. To schedule an appointment, call 719-276-5555 x 3816 during normal business hours. You must provide your name, a FCSO case number, and a description of the vehicle you would like to pick up.  IMPORTANT: Tow and/or storage fees must be paid in advance prior to vehicle being picked up. 

Abandoned motor vehicles impounded by the office may be sold at public or private sale following notice pursuant to CRS § 42-4-1805.
