GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office Records Division is responsible for processing, maintaining, retrieving, and releasing information and copies of reports released to the public, courts, insurance companies, and other law enforcement agencies. The Records Division only releases records maintained by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and the Fremont County Detention Center.

RELEASE OF INFORMATION:
All criminal justice records are released in accordance with the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) and Colorado Open Records Act (CORA).
REPORTS AVAILABLE
Copies of case reports are generally available within 14 working days from the date the incident was reported (this allows sufficient time for submission, review, corrections, and approval).
Some records are not released immediately upon request. Release of information and certain reports is dependent on a variety of circumstances, such as, but not limited to;
- Type of report
- Status of the investigation- active ongoing cases
- A request that is too broad, too vague, or large/in-depth may cause a delay in the time it takes to process and produce records be sure to provide as much detail as possible

HOW TO REQUEST A RECORD
If requesting a record, the following information may be helpful:
- Office hours are Monday thru Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Friday 8:00 a.m. to Noon. *Closed Weekends and Holidays*
- Records requests are accepted and processed during regular business hours, and fees may be assessed depending on the request's size.
- State ID or Drivers License is required for requester verification.
- Pre-payment of fees is required.
- A record request form must contain the signature of the person requesting the report.
- A record request form can be printed from the website, faxed, mailed, emailed, or delivered to the Sheriff’s Office, Records Division.
- Most requests will be processed within 3 to 10 business days after receipt of the request unless the request involves additional research or unusual circumstances surrounding the request or type of record.
- Cases under investigation will not be released until they are complete. Some case records may not be released if the disclosure would be contrary to the public interest by CRS 24-72-305.5.
- Major case crimes (i.e., Homicide, sex assaults, juvenile reports etc.) will not be released without proper authorization and completion of the investigation and/or judicial proceeding in Colorado Court.
- Some reports will have information redacted to comply with State law.
*NOTICE: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Agencies may submit an official request on Department letterhead (please include your agency ORI # on your request).
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR REQUEST:
You must submit a written request by:
- Printing or downloading the Sheriff’s Office Records Request Form, OR
- Submitting your own company letter or form; include the pecuniary statement pursuant to (C.R.S. 24-72-305.5).
Completed forms can be mailed, faxed, e-mailed or completed in person at the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Administration Division.
BY MAIL: Mail the request to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office “Attn: Records” to ensure proper routing. Please contact our office at (719) 276-5521 or (719) 276-5525 prior to mailing your request, so we can determine the estimated cost of your report.

A records technician will contact you to confirm your request was received and notify you if additional information and/ or if fees are required. Please contact our office at (719) 276-5521 or (719) 276-5525 if you do not receive a response within 3 business days.

IN PERSON: Requester will need to submit a records request form during normal business hours. We will provide you with a records request at the counter to complete. You can also download and complete the Records Request form and provide it to the clerk at the counter.
*Please note: All fees must be paid in full before the records will be released.
*Email or faxed requests received after 3:00.p.m or sent outside of normal business hours, or any day the office is officially closed will be considered received the following business day.
*Please be advised that an effort will be made to respond within 72 hours of requests, however, some requests may take up to 10 business days for a response.
FEE SCHEDULE: Fees must be paid in full before the records will be released unless alternative arrangements have been made through the Records Custodian.
Forms of payment accepted:
- Cash, money orders, cashier checks
- Attorney checks from an operating account
- Business checks (I.e., insurance companies)
- Credit Card payment is accepted by phone (A transaction fee will apply)
- ONLY local Fremont County personal checks with a Fremont County printed address will be accepted (Out of County personal checks will be returned to the sender and delay your request being processed).
Make checks or money orders payable to “Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.”
