(October 28, 2022—Fremont County, CO)—On Thursday, October 20, 2022, at 8:26 am Fremont County, Colorado Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Patrol Deputies were dispatched to a man with a gun call for service at the Country Green Apartments located in the 3000 block of East Highway 50 in Cañon City, Colorado. At 8:40 am a FCSO patrol deputy located a subject matching the description of the subject walking in the 400 block of Greydene Avenue in Cañon City. During the course of contact with the subject, Tyler Scott Davenport (DOB: 11/23/1993) of Cañon City, he began to run away from the deputy heading southbound along Greydene Avenue.

While running away from the deputy, Davenport brandished a semi-automatic handgun.  The deputy engaged in a foot pursuit of Davenport at which point Davenport turned and pointed the handgun at the deputy, resulting in the deputy firing their duty weapon.

Emergency medical personnel subsequently transported Davenport to the hospital for treatment. Davenport continues to recover from his injuries sustained during this critical incident.

The deputy was placed on administrative leave per FCSO policy while the investigation into the Officer Involved Shooting takes place.  The deputy was not injured during the incident. Per FCSO policy, the name of the deputy is being withheld. The name of the deputy will not be released until the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office makes its ruling and issues the final report in the case.

At the request of the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Pueblo Regional Field Office Major Crimes Unit is assisting with the OIS investigation. 

No additional subjects are being sought by law enforcement at this time and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
