The Fremont County Sheriff's Office would like to inform the public that the application process for the Firearm Safety Course Eligibility Card is not yet available. Applications will be accepted starting August 1, 2026. Please check back at that time to access the online application process.
In accordance with Colorado SB25-003, the Sheriff's Office will provide a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card, which is a necessary step in the process of purchasing or transferring specified semiautomatic firearms (SSFs). For more information on SB25-003 and to determine whether a specific make and model is a specified semiautomatic firearm, please visit the Colorado Department of Revenue's Firearms Dealer Division website at https://sbg.colorado.gov/firearms-dealer-division.
Additionally, you can visit the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website for the latest updates and information regarding SB25-003.
It is essential to note that the Sheriff's role in SB25-003 is limited to providing a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card, which is an approval to take a course, and not a guarantee of approval for the purchase or transfer of an SSF.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office.
