Officer Rory Bohanan served and protected the students, families, and staff of the Hillsboro-Deering School District for 12 years, and his impact on the school community was immeasurable. From greeting students, families, and staff each morning, to checking in with students during lunch, to visiting classrooms, to riding his bike across campus, to directing traffic in the afternoon, Officer Bo was a consistently positive force on campus. Every member of the school community benefited from his care and compassion, there was never any doubt that Officer Bo loved his work as the School Resource Officer, and the students and staff loved him. He provided guidance and mentoring, support and encouragement, and was a shining example of a life of service.
In honor of Officer Bohanan and the impact he had on the students of the Hillsboro-Deering School District Zeth Kenney and his son Finnley designed and donated a memorial bench engraved with Officer Bohanan’s name and Class of 2034. The is located outside the main entrance of the Hillsboro Police Department. Mr. Kenney stated “I wanted to do something to highlight how important a good SRO is for the students and schools. He was a special guy and Finnley’s class was the final group he worked with.”
