In the early hours of December 13th, officers attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and illegal passing on West Main Street near Penstock Hill. The vehicle accelerated in an attempt to elude, but crashed seconds later on a sharp corner along West Main Street. Officers observed the operator flee into the woods and immediately organized a large perimeter with assistance from Antrim and Henniker Police. Hillsboro Fire and Rescue were also called to address the crashed vehicle and damaged utility pole.
An immediate search of the area began using Hillsboro Police K9 Voight in conjunction with the department’s drone unit.
Just after 1:00 a.m., K9 Voight successfully located and apprehended the driver, who was hiding underneath a large boulder in the woods off Route 9.
The driver was identified as Michael Lesperance, 45, of Brattleboro, VT. Lesperance was transported to Concord Hospital for treatment of cold exposure and a dog bite to his buttock.

Controlled Drug: Schedule I–IV; Possession
Lesperance was also found to have outstanding warrants from Hinsdale, NH, and Vermont. He is being held at the Hillsborough County House of Corrections pending his court appearance.
