CIRT: Arrest Made in Officer-Involved Shooting

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the following information on behalf of the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). The following information should be attributed to the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.

21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) investigators have obtained an arrest warrant for Marc Matteson, 44, related to the incident that occurred on June 10, 2021.

Matteson was arrested on June 24, 2021 and is facing the following charges:

  • 2 Counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class 4 Felony
  • 3 Counts of Menacing, a Class 5 Felony
  • Violation of Bail Bond Conditions, a Class 6 Felony
  • 2 Counts of Resisting Arrest, a Class 2 Misdemeanor
  • 2 Counts of Obstructing a Peace Officer, a Class 2 Misdemeanor

Matteson was also arrested on an unrelated Domestic Violence warrant.

Matteson remains in the hospital in stable condition. He will be booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility upon release from the hospital.

All documents in this case have been sealed by the court. This incident remains under investigation by the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.

All officer-involved shootings in Mesa County are investigated by the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team, which is comprised of representatives of the Grand Junction Police Department, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Fruita Police Department, Palisade Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Corrections, 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and Colorado Bureau of Investigation.  Because Grand Junction Police Department personnel were involved in this incident, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is leading this investigation on behalf of CIRT.
