The New Castle Police Department uses a competitive testing process to hire new officers. Applicants are required to achieve a passing score on a written and oral exam, and complete a pass/fail physical agility test. Once the exams are completed, candidates are ranked on a list. Each applicant that passes the exams and physical agility test are subject to a thorough background investigation.
Candidates are hired from that list depending on the Department's need for new officers. The NCPD will hire applicants without any experience and will send those who are hired to the Police Academy.
The last test was given in September of 2025, and the NCPD is still hiring off of that list. Once that list is exhausted, a new test will be given. Please contact Lt. Steven Brooks with any questions regarding employment.
