At the beginning of April 2024, the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) program launched at Hillsboro-Deering Elementary School, engaging 82 fifth-grade students. L.E.A.D., a nationwide nonprofit, partners with communities to educate students about the dangers of drugs and violence.
School Resource Officers Danielle Normand and Michael DeTurris from the Hillsboro Police Department, who were trained by L.E.A.D., are now teaching this evidence-based curriculum during the school day. The program focuses on drug and violence prevention while equipping students with essential skills like effective communication and conflict resolution.
