- The goal of the Hillsboro Juvenile Court Diversion Program is an alternative to formal court proceedings for first-time offenders. It is the goal of the Hillsboro Juvenile Court Diversion Program to minimize a young person’s involvement in the Juvenile Justice system and to encourage a sense of responsibility and accountability on the part of the youth for their illegal acts. The Hillsboro Juvenile Court Diversion Program considers each case individually.
Once deemed appropriate and eligible, the Diversion Coordinator arranges an interview for the youth and parents to discuss the referral, explain the program, and determine suitability for participation. Upon intake, there will be a conversation with the Community Accountability Board (CAB) about the charges in place. A brief narrative of the police encounter will be presented and any other pertinent information. Based on the information presented to the CAB a diversion contract will be drawn up. A diversion contract could consist of community service hours, an educational and/ or preventative assignment, weekly case management, and any other component the board deems appropriate.
