The Keenesburg Police Department teamed up with the Colorado State Patrol Port of Entry Unit for a mobile port of entry operation on Veterans Way at the intersection of Weld County Road 18.
In other words… yes, we were stopping commercial trucks.
No, it was not a roadside coffee and doughnuts club.
And yes, keeping unsafe vehicles off the road is kind of our thing.
Our focus was safety and compliance while making sure commercial vehicles operating through our community are meeting state and federal regulations.
During the operation, a total of 57 trucks were contacted.
Here’s how it broke down:
• 14 Level 2 inspections
• 2 Level 3 inspections
• 1 Hazmat inspection
Total violations recorded: 16
Total out-of-service violations: 2 (both for vehicle defects)
For those wondering “out of service” is the official way of saying, “This vehicle is taking a short break until it gets fixed.”
And of course, no operation would be complete without at least one community “review.” One passerby thoughtfully shared his feedback by driving past the operation and offering the classic one-finger salute out the window. We appreciate the passion. While we prefer five-star ratings, we’ll log that one as “strong feelings about traffic safety.”
All jokes aside, operations like this help protect our roads, our infrastructure, and everyone traveling through our community.
Safe roads. Professional drivers. Happy Police Department.
