Fireworks in Keenesburg

Independence Day celebrations are an American tradition and of course that tradition is punctuated with fireworks. The Town of Keenesburg wants everyone to be safe and sane this season. The Police Department has received some inquiries about fireworks in Keenesburg and we want to take this opportunity to remind people that fireworks are illegal in our community.

Are fireworks legal?

Fireworks that explode or leave the ground are illegal in Colorado--everywhere.

All fireworks, of any description, are illegal within the Town of Keenesburg.

Of course, the Town will host the July 3rd fireworks show prepared and presented professionally to mitigate the many risks associated with explosives. Come out to the fairgrounds and enjoy music, games, food trucks, and your neighbors' company in a controlled environment. Leave the show to the professionals.

Risks--what risks?

  • Nationally, fireworks send thousands to emergency rooms and start more than 19,500 fires (National Fire Protection Association).
  • Many veterans and others experience PTSD and unexpected fireworks explosions cause severe stress.
  • Many pets suffer from severe anxiety created by the loud explosions.
  • Neighborhood relationships sometimes suffer due to trash, debris, unwelcomes noise, and other social impacts of unsanctioned events.
