A phone call is always preferred! 

Weld County Communications Center, the entity that provides dispatch services for Lochbuie Police Department and will also dispatch for Keenesburg when we start policing, can receive emergency messages via text message. The center cautions users to know the limitations, however.

• Phone calls are always preferred over text messages to the 9-1-1 center.
• Text messages:
  • could be delayed due to carrier traffic or other variables.
  • might be received by the dispatcher out or chronological order causing confusion.
  • might not delivered if your phone is "roaming" on the carrier network.
  • can take substantial time when minutes matter.
• Text 9-1-1 if your safety would be endangered by calling. If your circumstances require it, remember to silence your phone.

To use the system, type 911 in the "to" field in your messaging app. Enter details about your circumstances in the message field. Be sure to include the address or location where you need help. The dispatcher will text back questions you will need to answer; reply to those questions to help responders help you.
