To help with catalytic converter theft, Colorado Department of Public Safety will be distributing CatETCH kits during the Easter Egg Hunt April 8th 10am-1pm. The CatEtch kit enables car owners to mark their car's catalytic converter(s) as a theft deterrent.  Each kit contains two ultra-destruct labels (to accommodate vehicles with two catalytic converters) that are laser cut with a unique code and the URL of a secure, accredited database. The labels are to be applied to the catalytic converter housing and serve as a stencil for an etching fluid that will permanently mark the catalytic converter housing. Once marked, catalytic converters can be identified by law enforcement agencies and recyclers as reported stolen, making them risky for thieves to possess and more difficult to sell.
