26KE00481:

On May 26th, Keenesburg Officers made a traffic stop on I-76 westbound near MM38 after observing a vehicle driving a little erratically through town. The driver initially stopped but then apparently reconsidered whether speaking with officers was in his best interest.

The driver took off, leading officers on a pursuit with speeds exceeding 120 mph.

What the driver failed to account for was the fact that officers from neighboring agencies were also listening to the radio. Officers in Lochbuie deployed tire deflation devices and successfully introduced the vehicle's front tires to the consequences of poor decision making.

After losing both front tires, Mr. Christion Joy decided pulling over was suddenly the better option and was taken into custody near I-76 and Bromley Lane.

When asked why he ran, Mr. Joy explained that he didn't believe police could chase you in Colorado.

Guess what? We can. And will.

Aside from his new felony charges, Mr. Joy was also found to have two misdemeanor warrants for his arrest.

Mr. Joy had the joy of taking a complimentary ride to the Weld County Jail to discuss the matter with a judge.

Mr. Joy was charged with Vehicular Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Reckless Endangerment, and Reckless Driving.

26KE00489:

On May 28th, Keenesburg Officers clocked a vehicle traveling northbound on WCR 49 at 97 mph in the 11000 block.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, Ms. Jannyn Diaz, did not think it was safe to pull over and elected to continue driving for approximately three more miles before locating a suitable shoulder.

For those wondering, the shoulder does not magically get wider anywhere along WCR 49.

Ms. Diaz claimed ignorance of the traffic laws. Officers also learned she was driving on an adult instruction permit.

Had Ms. Diaz been following the rules associated with her instruction permit, she would have had a licensed driver in the vehicle who could have explained what the flashing red and blue lights and police siren behind her meant.

Ms. Diaz was issued a summons for Reckless Driving, Speeding, and No Proof of Insurance. Her vehicle was also impounded.

26KE00490:

On May 28th, Keenesburg Officers noticed a pickup truck in town displaying license plates that actually belonged to a van.

Upon stopping the vehicle near I-76 and MM39, officers contacted the driver, Mr. David Downey, and his two passengers.

After learning Mr. Downey was driving on a suspended license, officers spoke with the passengers, both of whom confidently provided fake names.

Unfortunately, both passengers appeared to know very little about the people they were pretending to be.

The male passenger was asked to step out of the vehicle and promptly dropped a credit card displaying his actual name while simultaneously attempting to convince officers he was being truthful.

Not an ideal sequence of events.

Mr. Nathaniel Bernal eventually admitted who he was and was found to have two active warrants, one felony and one misdemeanor.

The female passenger, sensing things were going so well, decided to continue sticking with her story.

She was introduced to one of our fingerprint scanners. After a thorough explanation of how the scanner worked, she remained committed to her version of events.

The scanner remained committed to reality.

A quick scan revealed the female passenger was actually Ms. Katie Prack and that she had five misdemeanor warrants for her arrest.

Mr. Downey was issued a summons for No Insurance, Fictitious Plates, and Driving Under Restraint. His vehicle was impounded.

Mr. Bernal and Ms. Prack were both transported to the Weld County Jail on their warrants and also earned new False Reporting charges.

26KE00493:

On May 29th, Keenesburg Officers observed a vehicle traveling 70 mph in a posted 55 mph zone near WCR 18 and WCR 55.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle near WCR 18 and North Market Street, the driver decided this was also a good time to ignore the stop signs at the intersection and drove right through them.

Once stopped, the driver, Mr. Miguel Conchas, was found to have an active warrant for his arrest.

Mr. Conchas was issued a summons and transported to jail on his warrant.

His vehicle was released to his passenger, who informed officers she was on her way to her birthday dinner at a family member's house.

Nothing says "Happy Birthday" quite like spending the evening figuring out bond paperwork.

26KE00495:

On May 30th, Keenesburg Officers clocked a vehicle traveling 100 mph in a posted 65 mph zone in the 10000 block of WCR 49.

Upon seeing the patrol vehicle, the driver decided the best course of action was to slam on the brakes and rapidly swerve into the right lane, nearly causing a collision.

Officers stopped the driver, Mr. Alejandro Garcia, and asked about his disregard for traffic laws and basic driving etiquette.

Mr. Garcia's defense strategy consisted entirely of apologizing.

While appreciated, apologies unfortunately do not erase radar readings.

Mr. Garcia was charged with Speeding and Careless Driving.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
