Weather Balloon Spotted in Southeastern Moffat County

Moffat County residents have spotted a weather balloon just south of Craig.  The Moffat County Sheriff's Office has received several calls regarding the balloon.  

This balloon was launched in southern New Mexico on September 30th, 2025 by the national weather service.  This high altitude balloon is used for atmospheric and climate research.  These types of balloons are rarely visible, as they typically fly between 75,000' and 100,000'.  The balloon's current location is just north of Glenwood Springs, as of 11:45am on October 15th, 2025.
