Press Release – Thirteen Fire Incident Summary

Craig, Colorado – August 10, 2025

The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Craig Police Department, in close coordination with Craig Fire and Rescue, are releasing the following information regarding the “Thirteen Fire” that occurred in Craig, Colorado, on August 10, 2025.

At approximately 1:30 PM, the Craig Regional Communications Center began receiving reports of a structure fire in the 700 block of East 13th Street. Craig Fire and Rescue, Craig Police Department, and the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately. The fire quickly spread to nearby fields, transitioning into a fast-moving wildland-urban interface fire.

Evacuations & Impact:

  • Evacuations were ordered at approximately 2:05 PM. All evacuation and pre-evacuation orders have since been lifted.

  • An estimated 55 residences were under significant threat during the incident.

  • The fire’s size has been reduced to an estimated 35 acres and is 100% contained.

Damage & Injuries:

  • Four structures were lost: three on the property where the initial fire occurred (a residence, garage, and shed) and another possible garage or shed near East 12th Street and Pine Street.

  • Two Craig Fire & Rescue firefighters were transported to Memorial Regional Health for evaluation due to smoke inhalation and heat-related fatigue. Both were released after treatment.

  • No other injuries have been reported.

Responding Agencies & Resources:
The incident required a significant multi-agency response, including:

  • West Routt Fire Protection District

  • Hayden Police Department

  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife

  • Bureau of Land Management Fire

  • U.S. Forest Service Fire Resources

  • Memorial Regional Health EMS

  • Boise Helitack Crew

  • Craig Regional Communications Center

  • City of Craig Road and Bridge Department

  • Yampa Valley Electric Association

  • Atmos Energy

Specialized firefighting resources included:

  • Boise Helitack Type I Helicopter

  • Two MCSO Wildland Engines

  • One Type IV BLM Engine

  • U.S. Forest Service Air Attack

  • Two Single-Engine Air Tankers

  • Multiple apparatuses from Craig Fire & Rescue and West Routt Fire

This list is not exhaustive, and we extend our gratitude to all individuals and organizations who contributed to protecting lives and property.

Cause:
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Due to the extent of suppression efforts, determining an exact cause may be difficult.

The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office and Craig Police Department thank the community for its cooperation and support during the incident. This response demonstrated the strength of interagency partnerships and our shared commitment to the protection of our community.
