Moffat County, Colo. — The Moffat County Sheriff's Office arrested a 37-year-old male in connection with a shooting investigation during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026.
At approximately 1:42 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Colorado Highway 13 near mile marker 115 for a report of an individual with a gunshot wound. While responding, a deputy observed a red Ford Raptor traveling southbound and followed the vehicle to Memorial Regional Health in Craig.
During the preliminary investigation, deputies determined the reported shooting had occurred in Baggs, Wyoming. Based on information developed during the investigation, deputies established probable cause to arrest Alejandro Rodriguez-Zarraga, 37, on the following Colorado charges:
Theft of a Firearm (Class 6 Felony)
The investigation indicates that a firearm was allegedly discharged from the vehicle prior to the victim sustaining a gunshot wound. The firearm involved was recovered as part of the investigation.
The injured individual was transported to Memorial Regional Health for medical treatment. No additional information regarding the victim's condition is being released at this time.
This investigation remains active and ongoing. The Moffat County Sheriff's Office is coordinating with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office in Wyoming regarding the shooting investigation.
