On September 22, 2023, at 7:15 a.m., the Craig Police Department received multiple calls about a man walking near Ranney St. and Sandrock Dr. holding a rifle.  Officers were able to identify the man and follow his movements to Yampa Avenue.  Moffat County Sheriff's Office Deputies and the Craig Police Department monitored his movements north on Highway 13 and did not approach him due to his known criminal history, and him possessing a rifle.  The individual approached a private residence with his rifle on Moffat County Road 208.  Moffat County Deputies and Craig Police Officers stopped the individual and took him into custody, before being transported to the hospital.  The individual is facing numerous criminal charges.  

Craig Regional Communications Center utilized an emergency alert notification to nearby residents, however there is no ongoing threat to public safety.  This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be released when it becomes publicly available."
