At approximately 4:00 a.m. this morning, firefighters from Craig Fire Rescue, the Moffat County Sheriff's Office Fire Crew, and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service responded to a wildland fire in the Cedar Mountain area off Moffat County Road 7.

Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, the fire was quickly contained to approximately 1.5 acres.

The initial investigation indicates the fire was likely caused by fireworks. Fireworks are illegal under the current Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Moffat County due to the extreme wildfire danger. This incident serves as a reminder that a single firework can quickly ignite dry vegetation and threaten lives, property, agricultural resources, and public lands.

We appreciate the rapid response of our firefighters and first responders in preventing this fire from spreading. We also thank our community members who have been complying with the Stage 1 Fire Restrictions and doing their part to help keep Moffat County safe.
