Three people are safe tonight after being rescued from the Colorado River near Corn Lake (32 Road). At approximately 7:45 this evening, deputies responded to a report of three people in the water. One of their inner tubes popped while floating the river, causing them to all go into the water. Only one person was wearing a life jacket.
While crews worked to launch a boat into the river, an MCSO deputy trained in water rescue was able to swim to where they were holding on to tree branches and help them to shore. The Clifton Fire Protection District assisted with this incident.
As a reminder, when recreating on the river always wear a life jacket, even if you are a strong swimmer. Life jackets are available to borrow for free at most boat ramps in Mesa County. Check river conditions before you go, as there are many hazards, including debris that can deflate equipment not designed for the river. Use only rafts and equipment designed for the river. Single chamber rafts or inner tubes are not recommended.
