On April 12, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of multiple assaults, including one down male, in the C Road Desert east of Clifton, Colorado, stemming from a bonfire.
Deputies contacted multiple individuals who reported the first suspect, identified as Dante Degiulio, 21, physically assaulted a male at the party after learning that the male was gay. The victim did not engage Degiulio and left the scene with injuries. Degiulio then attempted to physically assault another male on scene and destroyed his phone, damaged his own vehicle, and physically assaulted his girlfriend.
Sometime after the initial victim left the scene, two adult suspects arrived at the bonfire location to confront Degiulio. The suspects, identified as Johnny Herrera, 57, and Crystal Herrera, 44, both of Clifton, Colo., physically assaulted Degiulio. When deputies arrived on scene, they found Degiulio with serious bodily injuries. He was transported to an area hospital.
During their investigation, deputies located the initial male victim at an area gas station and confirmed his injuries.
On April 12, 2026, Dante Degiulio was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility after being released from the hospital on the following charges stemming from his role in this incident:
- Domestic violence
- Assault in the third degree, Misdemeanor 2
- Assault in the third degree, Misdemeanor 2
- Bias-motivated crimes, Felony 5
- Criminal mischief - $1,000-$2,000, Misdemeanor 1
- Criminal attempt, Felony 5
- Second degree assault with injury - deadly weapon, Felony 4
Based on information gathered through multiple interviews, warrants were issued for Johnny Herrera and Crystal Herrera.
On April 16, 2026, Crystal Herrera was arrested without incident and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges stemming from her role in this incident:
- Assault in the third degree, Misdemeanor 1
- Conspiracy (to commit first degree assault), Felony 6
Additionally on April 16, 2026, Johnny Herrera was arrested without incident and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges stemming from his role in this incident:
- Assault in the first degree, intent to cause serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon, Felony 3
