MESA COUNTY, COLO. - On July 16, 2026, at approximately 6:40 p.m., deputies and investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office were made aware of an alarming social media post made in a local, online community group. The anonymous poster claimed to have killed a Mesa County resident.

Investigators have confirmed the individual identified as the supposed victim is alive. The creator of the post has also been identified.

We ask that the community please refrain from calling Dispatch to report the initial post, and continued posts and comments. Investigators are conducting appropriate follow-up.
