GRAND JUNCTION, CO - The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is excited to announce the addition of a new drug sniffing K9 to the Mesa County Detention Facility. The canine, K9 Oso, will be used to detect illicit drugs that may be brought into the booking area of the Mesa County Detention Facility and to search the facility for contraband.
After an extensive selection process. Deputy William Correll was chosen to become K9 Oso’s handler. This fall, Deputy Correll completed numerous certification courses to exceed proficiency in working with K9 Oso.
“As individuals find new ways to introduce contraband into the Mesa County Detention Facility, we find new ways to combat it,” said Mesa County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Byrne. “We are excited to see how this new program improves safety inside the Detention Facility for staff, inmates, and visitors.”
Congratulations, Deputy Correll, and welcome, K9 Oso! We’re excited to see you both in action.
