GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - On August 4, 2026, deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office attempted to locate a male who was reported to potentially be driving while under the influence near the 500 block of Villa Street in Grand Junction, Colorado.
When Deputies attempted to contact the male in the vehicle, the driver took off on E ½ Road. The vehicle came to a stop in the middle of 31 ½ Road and E ½ Road briefly, but took off again as deputies approached the vehicle. Out of caution, deputies did not initiate a pursuit, though partner agencies were made aware of the vehicle and driver.
On August 6, 2026, deputies located the vehicle at a business on the 3200 block of I-70 Business Loop in Clifton, Colorado. The suspect was confirmed to be the same male from August 4, 2026, identified as Charles Vanderpool, 61, of Casper, Wyoming. Vanderpool refused to follow deputies commands to exit the vehicle before being safely placed in custody.
Vanderpool was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
