GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. - A Mesa County Detention Facility inmate, Kamber Lawrence, 23, was booked into the jail on January 25, 2026, on outstanding warrants, weapons, and drug charges. By January 27, Lawrence was suspected of hiding drugs in a body cavity.
Body scans of Lawrence detected an abnormality within a body cavity. When confronted, Lawrence attempted to produce the drugs herself and tore the bag open, exposing staff and herself to a lethal amount of suspected fentanyl. Ultimately, no serious injuries resulted from this event.
Additional criminal charges have been filed against Lawrence based on the circumstances of the hidden contraband and introduction into the facility.

- Controlled Sub-distribute Fentanyl 4-50 Grams - Felony 2
- Controlled Sub-distribute Fentanyl Less Than 4 Grams - Felony 3
- Tampering With Physical Evidence - Felony 6
- Reckless Endangerment (4 Counts) - Misdemeanor 2
