Brush Fire: 100% Contained

The Lands End 2 Fire is now fully contained. Fire crews will continue to monitor conditions overnight. 

The fire started around 1:00 p.m. near Lands End Road and Divide Road and burned 69 acres near Purdy Mesa Reservoir. Several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution. Residents have since been able to return home. Power has also been restored to the area.

Mesa County Sheriff's Office Wildland Fire Team, Bureau of Land Management, Lands End Fire Protection District, Clifton Fire Protection District, Plateau Valley Fire Protection District, Grand Junction Fire Department, Central Orchard Mesa, and Grand Valley Power assisted with this fire along with the help of a Type 1 Helicopter. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however, a dragging chain from a moving vehicle is suspected as the cause.
