The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a climber that occurred this week. About 10:45 Wednesday night, Mesa County Sheriff’s Deputies and Mesa County Search and Rescue volunteers responded to a report of a climber who fell in the area of Andy’s Loop Trailhead near Little Park Road.
Climbers said a person in their group fell about 30 feet. The Grand Junction Fire Department performed life-saving measures, but the adult male did not survive his injuries.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident as an unattended death. The Mesa County Coroner's Office is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death as well as releasing the person’s identity once his next of kin is notified.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office would like to stress the importance of double-checking equipment, rigging, and backup systems before engaging in any climbing activity.
