August 25, 2022 - At 1:30 pm, The Mesa County Sheriff's Office Major Offender Task Force, working in conjunction with the Crime Reduction Unit, located a Toyota Prius matching the description of a vehicle that had eluded area law enforcement agencies on multiple occasions with no license plates. The vehicle was contacted in the Mesa County Valley School District 51 Administration Building parking lot at 2115 Grand Avenue. As deputies attempted to contain the vehicle, the driver immediately began reversing and accelerating forward, colliding with both patrol vehicles and causing damage. The driver, later identified as 20-year-old Roger Black, proceeded to exit the vehicle and ran a short distance before being taken into custody.
During the vehicle search, deputies located Schedule II Drugs, multiple stolen weapons, and other stolen items linked to various Theft from Auto cases in the valley. Black has been charged with multiple counts of resisting arrest, traffic violations, and warrants from other jurisdictions.
